An annual week-long internship for high school juniors

The Christopher Columbus Awards

With the help of an adult coach, Middle School students work in teams to identify an issue they care about and use science and technology to develop an innovative solution. They work with experts, conduct research and put their ideas to the test, just like adult scientists. This is science and community involvement at its best, with real rewards. The program meets eight middle school science teacher standards.

Coastal and Ocean Science Training Internship Program (COAST)

For high school students interested in further exploration of the ocean sciences. COAST interns will work, for 3-4 weeks with Student Conservation Association (SCA) crew leaders and onsite researchers. This is an opportunity to challenge yourself, meet new friends, and try new activities while getting hands-on experience. COAST is not a summer camp experience; you will, however, learn about the coastal environment in ways that you never could inside of the classroom or by reading a textbook.

The National Oceans Science Bowl

This competition is intended to increase knowledge of the oceans on the part of high school students, their teachers and parents, as well as to raise the visibility and public understanding of the national investment in ocean-related research.
